Josephine Grey is a human rights activist, and mother of four who has been active in the struggle for economic and social justice for over 15 years. She is a founder of Low Income Families Together (LIFT) in Toronto, a resource centre run by and for low-income people. LIFT is a member of the Convergence of Movements of the Peoples of the Americas (COMPA); broad-based, autonomous, diverse and democratic movement, which spans throughout the Americas.
Women of Change is a powerful documentary that profiles women who are at the center of a new global trend. As business goes global and trade agreements dissolve borders, women in Canada and Mexico work together to champion human rights in a world of rapid economic change. The documentary centres on Josephine Grey in Canada and Bertha Lujan in Mexico who are leading an exciting social movement to help people out of poverty.
International Women’s Day was established in 1977 by the United Nations. This special day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made to advance women’s equality and to assess the challenges facing women in contemporary society.
Horizons of Friendship an international development organization supporting community development projects in Central America and Mexico, is inviting Josephine Grey to Cobourg to share her experiences both as a local and international activist. In her presentation, Josephine will discuss the importance of linking with women, groups and movements in other countries in the fight against poverty.
