Master of Ceremonies will be Ian Brown, award winning Globe and Mail features writer and host of CBC radio’s Talking Books and TVO’s Human Edge. The contribution of these writers along with that of host, Trinity College School is a sign of the strong support enjoyed by Horizons of Friendship for over 33 years, one of Canada’s most highly respected non-governmental organizations.

For twelve years Writers & Friends has helped to provide support for impoverished communities in Central America and Mexico. Over $250,000 has been raised to assist families coping with decades of natural disasters and political upheaval; the Canadian government, through CIDA funds, has matched this amount. The challenges faced by people in the south were witnessed first hand by participants on Horizons’ recent exposure tours. Visitors saw how the economic crisis faced by coffee growers and other small farmers is exasperating conditions of abject poverty in the region. Devastation caused by hurricanes has compounded the ongoing struggles of indigenous communities. With your support of Writers & Friends, Horizons of Friendship can continue to make a difference.

Readings, book signings, music and a sumptuous Gourmet Buffet are just part of the Writers & Friends tradition. The Grand Silent Auction presents enticements for early Christmas shoppers- books donated by major publishers, specialty gifts and services, and Central American folk art and craft items. Our Select Live Art Auction returns this year as well, with donations by artists Betsy Downie, Melanie Browne, George Raab; from Zimbabwe, a Shona stone sculpture and from Japan, a first edition art volume. A special offering this year is a week’s stay in the south
west France.
