Horizons of Friendship 14th Annual
Gala Fundraising Evening in Port Hope
Horizons of Friendship is pleased to announce that Writers & Friends will take place this year on Sunday, November 9th at LeVan Hall, Trinity College School, Port Hope.
In addition to the much anticipated readings and book signings, Writers & Friends 2008 will include a question & answer session, gourmet buffet, music, and a grand silent auction. A Selected Live Art Auction concludes the evenings featuring donations from well known artists including Andrew Gregg, Tony Urquhart, and the Zim Art Studio of stone sculpture.
Writers & Friends 2008 contributors will include outstanding authors Charlotte Gray, one of Canada’s best known writers and biographers, and author of the recently published Nellie McClung, Richard Gwyn, author of The Man Who Made Us, and the 2008 Writers Trust recipient for his biography of Sir John A. MacDonald. Special guest will be Farley Mowat, Canada’s master storyteller and founding contributor of Writers & Friends. His upcoming memoir Otherwise is being hailed as “a wondrous final achievement of a true titan”.
Originating with the first Writers & Friends event in 1995 with Farley and Claire Mowat and Ronald Wright, Horizons’ literary evenings have now attracted the support of over 65 authors including Giller winners Elizabeth Hay and Richard B. Wright as well as Anna Porter, Joseph Boyden, Camilla Gibb, Michael Crummey, M.G. Vassanji, Margaret MacMillan, Donna Morrissey, Paul Quarrington, Nino Ricci, and Jane Urquhart. Hundreds of loyal Writers & Friends supporters including artists, sponsors, and contributors have all helped put Horizons on the “arts” map of Canada. And thanks to the matching support of CIDA, Writers & Friends has now been able to raise over half a million dollars on behalf of impoverished communities in Central America and Mexico.
Writers & Friends Tickets are $ 110 (income tax receipt $ 65) and will be available at Horizons of Friendship and at Furby House Books, Port Hope.
