On August 16th, The Kingston Central American Solidarity Committee held the “Wolfe Island Fiesta” to raise funds for the work of Horizons of Friendship’s partner AMIGAS (The Guatemalan Intercultural Highlands Association) on Reproductive Health for Mayan Women. Through ticket sales, raffles and a silent auction, a total of $1,300 was raised which will be matched 3:1 by CIDA. AMIGAS is addressing high maternal and infant mortality rates among Mayan populations by training Mayan outreach volunteers to share culturally sensitive information on sexual and reproductive health to groups of women and adolescents throughout communities of Quetzaltenango.
