TOGETHER WE CAN BUILD STRONG COMMUNITIES. PLEASE JOIN US TODAY.

Like many non-governmental organizations, Horizons faces the continual challenge of sustaining our important Southern and Canadian work. We rely on a variety of fundraising endeavours along with funding received from the Canadian government via CIDA’s Partnership Branch. Individual donors support our work through general donations, our monthly sustaining donor program as well as planned giving contributions. We have a very loyal support base from coast to coast to coast, with the majority of our individual donors donating $100 or less annually. Horizons produces two newsletters annually along with an Annual Report including Audited Financial Statements.

Horizons fosters relations with government and private foundations as well as community groups that provide support for specific projects or our general program. Project contributions are matched three-to-one by our CIDA grant.

In addition, volunteers organize three flagship cultural events each year that engage a new constituency and bring in a diversified source of revenue. “Writers and Friends” events have been organized in Kingston and Port Hope for the past twelve years. Here, renowned Canadian authors and musicians provide thoughtful entertainment, while artists and businesses donate to the silent auction. Celebrating its’ 10th anniversary in 2007, our Homes, Gardens & Music event provides a tour of Cobourg and area heritage homes and elegant gardens with live concerts. These three events combined contribute approximately 8% of Horizons’ non-CIDA revenues.

In addition, Horizons operates a Thrift and Treasure Shop on the ground floor of our premises, which benefits neighbours both near and far, by providing quality used clothing and household items at accessible prices while generating revenue for our Mesoamerican program.
