Canadian Campaigns

Horizons participates in national campaigns aimed at informing and involving greater numbers of Canadians in global issues.

For 2010, Canadian civil society partners have created the At the Table campaign. The campaign calls for action on poverty, climate change, and unjust global economic systems in 2010.

The At the Table campaign consists of a  broad coalition of groups which include organized labour, nongovernmental organizations, environmental groups, faith groups, students and many others.

In 2010 global summits, we need bold action on:

1) Poverty and Inequality

  • Keep commitments to developing
    countries
  • Invest in and empower women
    and children

2) Climate Change

  •  Reduce greenhouse gas
    pollution
  • Support poorer countries in
    responding

3) The Global Economy

  •  Ensure global recovery for all
  • Make global rules and institutions fair.

In 2005, the Make Poverty History campaign was launched.  The campaign highlights the need to involve world leaders in demanding progress on poverty eradication. Horizons of Friendship believes that Canada has an obligation to work towards meeting and supporting the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

Make Poverty History
A child dies every three seconds as a result of extreme poverty.
Poverty is not inevitable. If we have the will to act — we can Make Poverty History.
