In Panama, almost four out of ten people live below the poverty line: almost 20% of the population survives on less than US$2 per day. The richest 20% of the population receive 60% of the national income while the poorest 20% receive only 2.5%.

Our Work in Panama
Our engagement with Panama dates back to the 1980’s and has consisted principally in support for training programs directed at grassroots organizations in the region. We have also supported the work of community-based organizations in the area of early childhood education. More recently, we have initiated support to a non-governmental organization working with the Ngobe-Bugle (formerly Guaymí) people, who are Panama’s largest Indigenous community. We currently support two partner organizations in Panama.
