ORGANIZATION PROJECT DESCRIPTION
CEEICentre for Indigenous Studies and Education (CEEI)  Strengthening the Mayan K’iche Community in Guatemala. The focus of this project is to ensure that Indigenous people will have a greater say in the decisions that affect their lives through the strengthening of Mayan governance structures and processes in the municipalities of Momostenango, Santa Maria Chiquimula and Totonicapán in Western Guatemala.

Association for Health Promotion, Research and Education (PIES de Occidente)

Western and Mayan Medicine: Two complementary approaches to Health Care in Guatemala. The project will promote, within the formal health care sector in Guatemala, an intercultural model of health care that will incorporate both Western and Mayan medicine. The long term objective is to promote the right of indigenous peoples in Guatemala to culturally appropriate health care services.
2. AMIGAS

Guatemalan Intercultural Highlands Association (AMIGAS)

Strategies to reduce maternal mortality in the Highlands and Coastal area of the Department of Quetzaltenango. The project will improve the quality of reproductive health care information and services available to Mayan women of Quetzaltenango. AMIGAS will provide training to approximately 200 Mayan midwives and other community members in detecting early warning signs of complications during and following a pregnancy.

Santa Maria Linguistic Project (PLSM)

Promotion of Intercultural Bilingual Education among Mayan Communities. This project is part of an ongoing process undertaken by PLSM to promote intercultural bilingual education (IBE) among Mayan communities of Western Guatemala, as a means of creating an inclusive, respectful and vibrant multicultural society, a key element of the Peace Accords. The underlying goal is that teachers, parents and youth appreciate the importance of IBE in providing a quality education for Mayan youth and in strengthening their cultural identity and full contribution to an intercultural society.
